Chromolite HPLC columns provide excellent separations in a fraction of the time of a standard particle column. Separation is typically four times faster because they are made of highly porous monolithic silica rods with a bimodal pore structure. The column is no longer packed with small particles but consists of a single piece of high purity silica gel. A longer lifetime and lower matrix sensitivity with biological samples are further advantages of chromolite columns. Multiple chromolite columns linked together offer a separation efficiency of 100,000 plates/column at normal pressure.
