Dip slides were originally developed to determine the bacterial content of urine samples. They have been modified over the years into the double-sided form, with a medium for Gram-positive species on one side and a medium for Gram-negative species on the other. With these dip slides, colony counting is time and cost efficient, it allows samples to be in contact with two different media at the same time.
