The dome-shaped base of Thermo Scientific Contact Plates prevents agar from falling out. GripFit technology makes the plates easy to handle. The lid cannot slip during handling, but can be easily removed during environmental monitoring. The grid-shaped inner layer of the plate allows easy calculation of colony forming units (CFU) from surface testing. This allows the laboratory to report whether the concentration of contaminants is within predefined, acceptable limits. Easy stacking increases stability during handling and transport. Reduced air circulation prevents the plates from drying out.
Our contact plates are manufactured using a special automated process to ensure a smooth and even distribution of the agar on each plate. To take a sample, the dome-shaped surface of the agar is gently rolled out on the surface to be sampled. If pathogenic or infectious microorganisms are present, they grow into easily visible colonies on the surface of the agar. This is a reliable and effective method for determining the microbial purity of surface areas and helps control invisible hazards associated with microbial contamination. Growth is clearly visible within three days for bacteria and within five days for fungi.
