For Analyzing Volatile Liquid Samples, Volatile liquids should first be encapsulated in hermetically sealed aluminum capsules to prevent the loss of sampling material; the aluminum capsule is then placed in a standard tin capsule.
Two sizes of aluminum capsules are available. The smaller, with an internal volume of 4 mL, can hold sample weights up to 2.5 mg. The larger, with a 30 mL internal volume, accommodates samples up to 20 mg. Sealing of the larger capsule should be carried out in the presence of helium or argon to prevent entrapment of air.
