Restek chemists were the first to combine the speed of surface porous particles (also known as SPP or "core-shell" particles) with the resolution of highly selective USLC technology. With this new generation of chromatographic columns, you can achieve better peak separations and shorter analysis times with existing HPLC and UHPLC instruments.
The innovative biphenyl phase is Restek's most popular stationary phase because it is particularly well suited for separating compounds that are difficult to resolve or elute early on C18 columns and other phenyl phases. As a result, the robust Raptor biphenyl column is extremely useful for rapid separations in bioanalytical testing applications such as drug and metabolite analysis, especially those requiring a mass spectrometer (MS). The increase in retention of early eluting compounds can limit ionization suppression, and the increased selectivity helps eliminate the need for complex mobile phases that are not well suited for detection by MS.
Stationary phase category: phenyl (L11)
Ligand type: Biphenyl
Particle size: 1.8 µm, 2.7 µm, or 5 µm surface porous silica (SPP or "core-shell")
pore size: 90 Å
Carbon loading: 7% (1.8 µm), 7% (2.7 μm), 5% (5 μm)
Endcapping: yes
Surface area: 125 m2/g (1.8 µm), 130 m2/g (2.7 µm), or 100 m2/g (5 µm)
Recommended use:
pH range: 2.0 to 8.0
Maximum temperature: 80 °C
Maximum pressure: 1034 bar/15000 psi (1.8 μm), 600 bar/8700 psi (2.7 μm); 400 bar/5800 psi (5 μm). For maximum service life, the maximum recommended pressure for 1.8 μm sized particles is 830 bar/12000 psi.
Features:
Increased retention for dipolar, unsaturated or conjugated solutes.
Improved selectivity when used with methanolic mobile phase.
Ideal for increasing sensitivity and selectivity in LC-MS analyses.
Switch to a biphenyl column:
If you notice limited selectivity on a C18 column.
When you need to increase the retention of hydrophilic aromatics.
Note: We strongly recommend that you only order a semi-preparative or preparative column once you have evaluated the desired separation on an equivalent column on an analytical scale.
Because we cannot reuse a column or the silica within it once it leaves our facility, we cannot accept returns of large columns.
