Transystem™ Swab Kit
The Transystem™ family includes different media for efficient and safe transport of many bacterial strains. Swabs are available with Amies Gel and Stuart media for aerobic culture, rapid antigen testing and molecular testing. Gel-Cary-Blair medium is suitable for aerobic and anaerobic cultures - with or without carbon.
Transystem™ maintains the viability of various aerobic and anaerobic organisms for 24 hours at room and refrigerated temperatures: Neisseria gonorrhoeae - Coxsackie B4 virus, Herpes simplex virus type 2, Influenza A, Respiratory syncytial virus, Varicella zoster virus and Chlamydia trachomatis.
Copan FLOQ® Technology for Swabs
Copan developed and patented Flocked Swabs in 2004: FLOQ® technology uses short, vertical nylon® fibers at the tip of the swab shaft. The resulting capillary forces increase sample yield tenfold. At the same time, there is nearly 100% release because there is no disordered fiber structure, as with cotton swabs, that would trap the sample. This technology is used in Copan eSwab® swabs.
Today, liquid-based microbiology (LBM) is the gold standard for microbiological sample transport, converting solid samples into easy-to-process, automatable and versatile liquid samples. Since the introduction of eSwab® in 2006, the LBM® family has expanded to include numerous liquid media, so that today there is virtually no clinical microbiology sample that cannot be collected, transported and processed in a liquid medium.
