We offer the entire range of laboratory filtration products by Whatman (part of cytiva since 2020). Products such as filter papers and membranes to syringe filters, capsules, microplates, and filter vials help you obtain higher quality results in less time. Whatman filters are world-renowned as a standard for laboratory filtration and are associated with quality, reliability, and reproducibility. Whatman filters are used in a wide range of areas such as quality testing in the pharmaceutical industry and in the food and beverage industry, but also in research and in environmental monitoring. The main focus is on products for filtration separated in Filter Papers, Syringe Filters, Glass Fiber Filter and Membrane Filter.
You may use the drop-down menu on the left to select filter type, pore size, diameter and material to find the right filter for your application. Click here for an overview of the individual grades of Whatman filters and the areas of application
We carry the entire line of Whatman syringe filters. Here you will find an overview of the most common syringe filters:
Application |
Filter |
Diameter (mm) |
Features |
Membrane |
High performance: For both simple and demanding analytical requirements; these syringe filters offer premium quality and efficiency |
Anotop | 10, 25 |
Contains proprietary alumina-based membrane, extremely small pore size. Anotope filters can be used for most organic solvents and aqueous materials. |
Anopore |
Puradisc | 4, 13, 25, 30 |
High performance filters with the most options for membranes, diameters and applications. Designed for pre-filtration of difficult-to-filter aqueous or organic solutions containing particulates |
CA, CN, RC, PTFE, H-PTFE, Nylon, PP, DpPP, PES, PVDF, GMF |
|
Difficult Filtration: For use with high-particulate and viscous samples; these syringe filters contain two or more filter layers for efficient and cost-effective filtration without blockage |
Anotop Plus | 10, 25 |
Contains proprietary alumina-based membrane, extremely small pore size. With the additional benefit of a GMF pre-filter |
Anotop |
GD/X | 13, 25 |
With a prefiltration stack of Whatman GMF 150 (graded density) and GF/F glass microfiber media. GD/X syringe prefilters can handle three to seven times more sample volume than standard syringe filters. |
CA, PTFE, Nylon, PP, PES, PVDF, GMF, RC
GD/XP | 25 |
Contains a proprietary polypropylene pre-filtration stack suitable for inorganic ion analysis. GD/XP syringe prefilters contain a two-layer prefilter stack consisting of 20 μm and 5 μm polypropylene filters. The last |
Nylon, PVDF, PP, PES, PTFE, DpPP
Automated Systems: These robust syringe filters are compatible with most high throughput and/or dissolution systems. |
Roby | 25 |
For difficult-to-filter samples, Whatman Roby syringe filters are also available with an integrated glass fiber prefilter. The filter housing is made of mechanically stable polypropylene. |
Nylon, RC, GMF |
Application Specific: For specific applications: HPLC, IC and LC with certification; bioethanol and protein purification production; environmental sampling prior to COD/DOC analysis |
Anotop IC | 10, 25 | Designed for ion chromatography and HPLC sample preparation | Anopore |
Anotop LC | 10, 25 |
For easy and effective preparation of samples prior to HPLC. These syringe filters preserve the life of your column by efficiently removing particles from your analytical samples. Because the Anotop LC Syringe Filter is made of pigment-free polypropylene and the inorganic Anopore membrane, you can be sure that after filtration the level of extractable UV-absorbing compounds is minimal. |
Anopore | |
Spartan HPLC Certified | 13, 30 |
For reproducible results in the filtration of organic or aqueous solutions in HPLC. For batch-to-batch consistency, the Whatman SPARTAN range of filters is tested and certified for the absence |
RC | |
All-in-One | Mini-Uniprep |
Whatman's syringe-less all-in-one filters and filter vials are pre-assembled, convenient filtration devices for removing particles from samples. They replace syringe-coupled filtration devices with a single, disposable unit, making sample preparation easier, faster and more efficient. |

Advantage: Reliable quality, economical portfolio for basic applications |
Uniflo | 13, 25, 30 |
Disposable filters designed to provide clean filtrate from small volumes up to 100 mL |
Nylon, PES, PVDF, PTFE, H-PTFE |
Most qualitative and quantitative filter papers from Whatman are made from high-quality cotton linters that have been treated to achieve a minimum alpha cellulose content of 98%. These cellulose filter papers are used for general filtration and have a particle retention of up to 2.5 μm. A wide range of retention and flow rate combinations are available to meet the requirements of numerous laboratory applications. The various groups of filter papers offer increasing levels of purity, hardness and chemical resistance. The quantitative Whatman filter papers have extremely high purity and are suitable for analytical and gravimetric work.
The following tables give an overview about the different filter types and the specific lables of each producer.
The properties of borosilicate glass micro fibers from Cytiva provide retention levels down to the submicron range. These depth filters offer a combination of fast flow rate with high loading capacity and retention of very fine particles. Due to the high pore volume of glass microfiber filters, the loading capacity is much higher compared to a cellulose filter with similar retention.
Glass microfiber filters must be used flat and should not be folded. Whatman glass microfiber filters are made of 100% borosilicate glass and are usually completely binder-free. Binder-free glass microfiber filters can withstand temperatures up to 550 °C and can therefore be used for gravimetric analyses where ignition is required.
Unlike cellulose and glass microfiber depth filters, membrane filters are conventionally classified as surface filters because the filter matrix acts as a screen and retains particulates almost entirely on the smooth membrane surface. The retention levels for these filters extend down to 0.02 μm and allow the efficient retention of sub-micron particulates and organisms. Water microbiology and air pollution monitoring are major applications for membranes.
