Use Thermo Scientific™ Hydrocarbon Soluble Fluid for silicone treatment of glass surfaces. This short-chain, clear polymeric silicone fluid is composed primarily of dichloro-octamethyltetrasiloxane and is soluble in organic solvents. When applied to glass, quartz or similar products, the unhydrolyzed chlorine atoms in the chain react with surface silanols to form a neutral, hydrophobic, tightly bound film that covers the entire surface. The silicone fluid is excellent for modifying metals, certain plastics, ceramics and glass fibers.
Additional product information:
Hydrocarbon soluble silicone treatment fluid is acidic and care should be taken to avoid corrosion of metal that comes into contact with the fluid.
The fluid is only acidic during application; after application, the surface is neutral.
